  1. White shows purity. Like that your still a virgin that you've never been with a man or not. That's just an old tradition that was started a long time ago and we ladies still carry it out. I'm proud that I'm honestly able to wear white on our wedding day that I saved myself for husband.

  2. it is associated w/ "purity" (virginity)

  3. Purity

  4. A long time ago, white was a very expensive color to wear, so people wore it to show they were wealthy.

  5. It used to be. Not anymore. It's more contemporary now. You can have a white dress with lavendar accents on it (or whatever color you're thinking of doing). White was just the sign of purity, but nowadays that's all out the window!! If not, everyone would be walking down the aisle in black or red! So technically, white or ivory/cream, is for the bride...you can even wear a sash in whatever color you'd like. 6. White is a sign of purity. You should be pure when you get married thats why the dress is white.

  7. It suppose to stand for the purity of the marriage relationship.

Really, red use to be the color of the wedding dress until the Victorian Era.

The veil is what signified the virginity of the bride.  That is why it's advised that 2nd time brides not use a veil.  But that tradition is falling to the wayside as well.

Really, it's all superstition.  Many of today's 1st-time brides are wearing color, or at least color on their dress.

  8. White worn at a wedding was popularized by queen victoria.  Because white was an impractical color to wear and to wear white meant you were only wearing the dress once, wearing a white dress meant your family was wealthy.  A white dress does NOT signify purity or virginity.

  9. Because Queen Victoria made it popular.

Traditionally speaking, wedding dresses were not always white--they were simply your best gown of any color.  White was actually used for funerals and for mourning a lot of the times.  Wearing white to get married in really had nothing to do with virtue or purity--it was all about wealth.  Wearing a white gown was considered extravegant so having one was a sign of position and wealth.  When Queen Victoria chose to wear all white to her wedding, people latched on the the style as a symbol of class and style.  From that time forward it became popularized and is now a tradition...albeit not a very old tradition.

It's nice to think that it was always white as a sign of purity and virginity, but in reality that's not the reason at all.

  10. Yes white is the "normal" color but now a days the rules have changed. Many brides incorporate white with the color of their wedding. For example if your color is black, you can wear a white dress that has black trimming and a black sash, or the same with any color.

A lot of woman have also used beige, eggshell, ivory, etc.

Check Davids Bridal for some color incarcerations on your dress, some are really nice.

  11. traditionally white means shes pure a virgin

  12. Its the color of purity and of life

  13. Many people believe that brides started wearing white to represent their purity. This is NOT the case.

It used to be that brides wore their best clothes on their wedding day - regardless of what color they were. In 1840, however, Queen Victoria of England wed Prince Albert in an extravagant white gown. It was a symbol of royal prosperity - she was so wealthy that she could afford to get married in an impractical, expensive gown that she never intended to wear again. The idea trickled down from the royal family to regular folks that a fashionable bride should wear an ornate white gown if she wanted to be very stylish. That idea has stuck. So, as you can see, the white was never intended to represent purity, but wealth.

Other countries, particularly in Asia and Africa, have their own wedding color traditions.

  14. its traditional

  15. Originally, it was to show how clean you were. Back in the middle ages, people only bathed once a year, generally in May or June, which is why so many weddings happened during that time. Many years ago stood for purity, but today I would just say it's tradition. The amount of brides who are pure is very few and honestly, who cares anyways? It's your life and what you choose do to with it.

  16. White represent that you are a virgin. It a symbolism for purity, pure, and untouched. That is why it is concerned a normal color.

  17. Clean up all the impurities so far and start the life anew with a bright shining future - that's what 'white' symbolises.
