Why is your ruling planet more important than your sun signs planet?

Because it influences your emotions. My ruling planet is the moon, so my moods and emotions tend to fluctuate with it. I wouldn't say it's more important, but it does have a strong influence.

Because it's the ruler of the entire chart, whereas your sun sign's ruling planet only rules that specific sign. Sun sign's ruling planet is still going to be important, but not as important as the chart ruler. Now you happen to have a double whammy with Venus ruling both your sun sign and your ascendant, so your Venus placement is going to be very prominent in your chart and therefore also in your personality.
