Why isn't ADSL 2 internet available in Sydney, Australia? ?

I wanted ADSL 2 fast internet from my ISP but they said there weren't 'vacant ports' available in my area. They said only Telstra can fix this. Is this true? ( my ISP isnt Telstra) .

How does Telstra fix this problem by adding more vacant ADSL 2 ports into my area? or do I have to wait till someone disconnects there ADSL 2 internet service to make it vacant for my ADSL2 connection.

Im really frustrated as only live about a 10 minute drive away from the Sydney CDB. Its not like I live in a remote area. Im in a normal urban suburban area. Im currently using normal dsl internet.

  1. Evidently your ISP is buying their connectivity from Telstra, so they can only give you what Telstra gives you.  As far as finding out whether Telstra intends to add more ports, good luck.  Companies usually don't give out that information.  You might considering switching to Telstra as your ISP, if they can give you an ADSL2 connection.  (It's possible that they're giving them to their direct customers, but not to resellers.)
