  1. It doesn't have anything to do with him being scared of all the big names at the Olympics or thinking it'd be some easy wins at the US Open Series while they are at the Olympics, like some of the answerers have said.

He skipped the Olympics because 1) he wanted to prepare for the US Open by staying in the US and playing the US Open Series, and 2) the Olympics aren't of great importance to tennis players. As far as individual titles, the Slams are better, and for patriotism in tennis, there's the Davis Cup. So, the Olympics just aren't very important for pro tennis players.

  2. He basically skipped the Olympics because he wanted to concentrate on his game.

  3. tennis remains an amatuer event at the olympics, no professionals

  4. I heard he wanted some time out to focus on the grandslams which have mostly eluded him

  5. He knew that both Nadal and Federer were playing in the Olympics, so he figured that he could win a tournament while they were in China...obviously that didn't turn out to good for him. It's really a shame that America's top tennis player didn't make the trip to represent his country.

  6. Cause he wants to be ready for the US Open. He wants to win it.

  7. Andy Roddick passed up on the Olympics because he wanted to focus on the US Open. Roddick said that staying in the U.S. playing the U.S. Open Series will better prepare him for the U.S. Open.

Roddick also stated that he had been to the Olympics in 2004 and it was a wonderful occasion. Experiencing the Olympics once was good enough for him.

Hopefully Roddick will continue to play well and have a good run at the U.S. Open.

  8. becuase he has other priorties in mind.. like a good bid for the US OPEN title..... besides there are other players representing american for the olympics.. and either Roddick does not like his chances of a gold medal and would rather take the side lines and focus on the US OPEN for now..

  9. He skipped the Olympics to focus on getting ready for the US Open and possibly making a play to win a second grandslam. I watched his match today on ESPN2 and though he lost, he seems to have put more variety in his game which is a good thing and he can stop depending on his serve and aggrivating his shoulder and lower back. He also skipped it I think because all the big names are at the Olympics so this gives him a chance to just play comfortably and get some good matches in.

  10. simple.  he didn't feel like it.  i believe the US Open is the end of the month and he decided to get his practice in this weekend at the Countywide Open, take the next 10 or so days off and be well rested for the Open.

The Olympics aren't really a big deal in pro world.  it's all about country pride.  blake is there for us, and federer and nadal made the trip for the swiss and the (spanish??).  but with the money and prestige, the tennis players' priority is the Open.

roddick thinks he can't do both and win the Open, federer thinks he can.
