My cousin told me Wonderland had to change the names of a lot of their rides because Paramount has a copy on their movies. (Cliffhanger, Top Gun, Tomb Raider, Italian Job, etc.)

  1. ' Cause they sold it.....?

  2. I don't know because I don't live in Canada, but I was just wondering the same thing because here in California, we used to have a Paramount's Great America which also had a Top Gun rollercoaster..and now its not Paramount anymore..its California's Great America, so I'm wondering why also..and I wonder if they had to change Top Gun too! =O

  3. Paramount is actually owned by Viacom.  In 2005 Viacom decided to split in 2 which means they still owned everything but had 2 companies.  In June 2006, Paramount Parks were sold to the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and Paramount t.v. and movies actually became part of CBS.

My guess is everything had to change because the park is not owned by the same company as the t.v. and movies anymore.

  4. Canada's Wonderland was owned by Paramount from 1994 - 2007, in 1994 Viacom already owned Paramount. In 2007 it was sold to Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. The CBS corporation claimed that the parks didn't suit well with their core business (producing/distributing television entertainment).

They obviously changed the names of the rides because they were named after Paramount Films.

i.e. Top Gun (Flight Deck) Tomb Raider (Time Warp) Italian Job (Backlot Stunt Coaster)
