The Huskers were dealt a severe blow in July, as 2005 National Player of the Year Christina Houghtelling underwent shoulder surgery • Will redshirt this season and should be at 100 percent for the start of the 2007 campaign • Averaged 3.69 kills, 2.49 digs and 1.03 blocks per game en route to first-team All-America honors in 2005 • Performed at her best in NU’s biggest matches, earning MVP honors at the NCAA Omaha Regional and the AVCA College Volleyball Showcase • Returning first-team academic All-American who carries a 3.937 GPA in elementary education and is heavily involved in community activities, including the Tour of Excellence, which traveled throughout the state during fall and spring break.

    “Christina developed a shoulder problem in the spring, and we felt it was best to repair her shoulder now so that she can come back completely healthy for her senior year,” Nebraska Head Coach John Cook said. “She is a big-time athlete and has the opportunity to continue in this sport following her collegiate career, whether it is with Team USA or professionally. We wanted to give her every opportunity to be successful following her career, and we made the decision that she should have surgery.” :-)
