Why isn't Football an Olympic sport?

English (and the rest of the world) football is not in the Olympics because we have the World Cup every five years or so. Same with cricket. American football is just that...American football.

It is, if you mean Soccer.

American football is not played on a competitive level in any other country.  Even Canada's team plays by a very different set of rules and has players that mostly couldn't make it in the US.

So, there wouldn't even be enough countries to give out a Bronze medal.

i would say two reasons

1 injuries 16 games and 4 preseason ends many carrers as it is.

2 No country could ever even tie the u.s. in real football.we would kill them.

You guys are a bunch of ignorant morons. ur answers are just pure waste!!! Gridiron Football is a global sport that's surely expanding. currently it is played in 55 nations split into 5 continents. NFL has scheduled a 17th game which is to be played overseas. by 2009 the IFAF will estimated have a 60-65 full nations that play football.... here are some interesting articles. I most say that tackle football may be a winter sport since the middle of the season it is played in the snow. and also since the winter games are usually in mid february, at that time gridiron will be in off season!

Only popular in the US and VERY expensive to properly outfit a team. Plus teams are huge.

Soccer: Shorts, shirt, shoes and a ball.

Basketball: same

Softball: Same plus glove and bat.

beach volley ball: skip the shoes, add a net.

Heck, a good football helmet costs more than outfitting the whole women's beach volley ball team.
