  1. For XP:  go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections>to check and see if your connection is listed, you might need to right click and hit Enable if it is installed correctly.

You didn't say that Cox is a cable modem or DSL.  Well, you might need to turn off the modem, wait a few seconds and then turn it back on.

If both of these steps do not work, you may have installed your DSL/Cable Modem incorrectly, refer to the owner's manual, but it should be very easy to reinstall.  Good luck!

  2. Is this a new connection for you?  I mean was it working fine in the past?  If so,

    Turn off your computer.

Turn off your modem.  Disconnect the power and the cable line and wait several minutes.

Connect everything and turn the modem back on.

    Turn on your computer.

If it's still not working, try a different browser like firefox 3 or go into IE => Tools => Internet Options => Advanced => Click reset.  It's possible the settings were inadvertently changed in IE.

If it still isn't working. Contact COX.  They will reset the connection at their end and try and talk you through some various situations that could be causing the problem.  If all else fails they'll send someone out to get you going.
