Why isn't Israel in NATO? Does Israel have secret motives?

They actually DO NOT meet the requirements to join... which is pretty funny, but mostly it has to do with their recent 'persecution' of Muslims, their geographic position, and their fairly new government.

I really don't think they've ever been asked. And they have their own troubles.

NATO= North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

That is the main reason, they are not in the right place. Australia isnt in NATO either.

Plus their human rights record is poor like the other answers... US might let them in but europe would say no way!

I do not think an ivitation was ever extended to them and NATO was formed by Eurpean countries and the US to team up against the Soviet Union and their puppet states if they ever invaded Germany or Denmark. Israel is a defence force to protect themselves from the Arabs and have no offensive capabilities really so they would have been a poor NATO member for  the most part but they are an ally of the US in the middle east where they are more valuable.

israel has too many human rights abuses...but the US wouldn't need them as a base in the middle east if we didn't keep siding with them and giving them 1.5 million dollars of your tax money per square mile.  Arab countries' and Iran's biggest grief is US support of Israel
