  1. Because in the US they have a sport they like to call football (yet hardly kick it) where they wear a whole pile of padding to spend most of the time standing around looking at each other.

Now I come to think of it, with the fast pace and physicality of rugby, I too am surprised it isn't more popular in the US.

Maybe it will be one day.

  2. America is the only place in the world that plays football, duh, American Football. Rugby is played around the world!! Now tell me, which is better and more popular?!! I'd say RUGBY!!

  3. because it's too british. they don't play footy much either

  4. It is fun, but it's a club sport on college campuses and not played at the high school level.

  5. well you got to look at it this way!! they have rugby and we have football!!!

  6. I think it is because we already have too many sports to follow in the USA. This is why soccer, which happens to be my favorite sport, will probably never reach the same level of fan participation than it does in Europe and South America. In addition, rugby is a similar sport to football, and football is king in America.

  7. It should be.  It is faster paced than football and much more exciting to watch.

I think americans get caught up in the numbers games.  Like how many yards did that QB throw for and how many touchdowns.  Rugby is more of a team sport were all the counts is winning.

  8. Simple. Typical Yankee arrogance

  9. It is sweet. It is a battle where every man on the field counts and can can be the star regardless of his position.

Rugby in the US. Rugby is where american football came from, but like many sports at the time became quite different to the british way things were played because the US was trying to rebel. After all they won the war, why do they have to play these english sports. As American football took root it has become highly commecialized and adapted for profit. ie breaks for advertizing during the game.

The united states has the second highest number of registered rugby players in the world behind england but we also have a large population here in the US. The southern hemisphere countries, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are the best teams and players, but those guys have been playing since they were kids.

Sadly here in the US despite the high numbers of players it still isn't a mainstream sport. alot is because people are exposed to it too late in life when their minds are already closed about what they like.

If you like it I suggest you get on the web and find your local club and go play a few game. Rugby friends are friends for life.

For he who sheds his blood with me here today shall be my brother.

  10. Americans wanted to look different to Englishmen and made American Football popular instead.

    Similarly you'll find:

    Baseball instead of Cricket

  11. I honestly have no idea what rugby is.  Is that game where they move the ball by using those broom looking things???

  12. American Football is more popular.

Bottom line, if it doesn't generate revenue in terms of commercials and advertising, they won't show it on TV.

Same thing with Soccer in America.

  13. The answer to your question is quite obvious. Whenever anything is not popular, it's because not enough people care for it.

The people of Mongolia can't understand why the number one sport in all countries isn't fighting over a dead calf, while on horseback.

Americans can't understand people not liking our type of football.

  14. cuz it sux
