Why isn't Selenium diatomic but oxygen is?

Selenium is in the same family as oxygen, yet O2 is stable while I do not think Selenium exists as Se2. Why is that?

  1. Selenium isn't as electronegative as Oxygen, so it doesn't want the 'partner.'
