People litter!!!!

No 1 I know recycles. I don't see hardly any recyling bins. No1 seems to care about energy conservation. Why aren't more motor vehicles powered by natural gas?

  1. Texas is an extreme case of an environmental dichotomy.  On the one hand, you have the big oil interests, which as we all know, are some of the worst environmental offenders.  But on the other hand, you have cities like Austin, which is supposedly one of the "greenest" cities in America.  This is the home of Whole Foods Market, as well as other "green" companies.  Eventually, hopefully, Big Oil will lose, and Texas will become more green, but when?

  2. What part of Texas? Here in Fort Worth we have recycle bins provided by the city and just about everyone uses them. Then there's the Barnette Shale which is a huge natural gas field.. so hopefully we'll see some of that soon.

  3. Don't be so hard on Texas.  They're in the midst of building the world's largest wind power farm there (just like Texas to do it bigger!).

But cultural change happens slowly, so you'll just have to do your thing and show everyone else how in the process.  Lead by example.  Recycle in plain sight.  Talk about recycling and conservation in casual conversation.  Some people will be interested.  Others won't.

And very important: do not chastise people for not recycling or not understanding.  You will only end up driving away everyone, including the ones who might have been willing to help.

  4. There's probably a pretty big oil lobby in the Texas government which prefers to keep natural gas for transportation down. I have 2 natural gas powered cars myself in Utah, where natural gas is only 64 CENTS per gallon. It's cheap in Oklahoma, too; under $1 a gallon, I believe. As for recycling, we have to take it ourselves to the recycling place, but it's not that big a deal. Other states are ahead of us in that way and pick it up curbside. Sometimes you just have to go the extra mile to do the right thing. At least you'll feel good if you do! Don't give up!

  5. Natural gas is extremely expensive, so unless your name is Bill Gates, I highly doubt you can afford such an expensive investment.

Oh, and people litter all the time everywhere.

  6. the main reason natural gas isn't used in Texas much is Cost...

most of the natural gas used in the country comes from Texas.... since the constitution prevents taxing interstate commerce Texas residents actually pay more for natural gas then people in say Chicago.. (we have to pay taxes on it they do not)
