Question:

Why isn't anyone putting some of the blame on car companies for the oil problem?

There were restrictions on cars as far as MPG. But they made a new segment called light trucks. Because of the weight of these "light trucks", when they were in an accident with a regular car, there was nothing left of the car. So many people started getting them. Yet they continue to build them with no remorse. Most of the commercials are still for them. And the hybrid versions are a joke just like GM's EV1, which was no real attempt at all!

  1. because is up to the consumer to do the research on what vehicle is good for them (good fuel consumption/ect)

  2. blame people for buying them ive been hearing the same c**p a bout fuel cars and the envionment since 1973 and people keep on behaving the same way-we vote with our actions what we have is what we created

  3. you are correct in a way

companies should focus on making small energy saving vehicles if we want to aid our current situation

yet some big vehicles are necessary for day to day life

  4. The American car company have done a really poor job of offering hybrids and fuel efficient vehicles.  You would think if Toyota, Honda and others could offer nice, efficient cars that Ford and GM could do the same.  They have failed miserably.

  5. There are pleanty of cars out which are low in co2 and have great milage.  By the way you asked the question id presume you are from the US?

In the US you can get some very niffty electric cars which aren't too expensive buy, cheap to run and very efficient.

Changes should be consumer driven and governments can help this by making better choices easier, but car companies will build cars which the public want or they would be out of business.

Car companies can and do then use large proportions of their profits to look into new technologies, they have been coming up with new innovations which do not use oil and use it more efficiently for 30 years, however people did not buy them and many companies have went out of business for investing too much.

Alot of the innovations that have stuck are used in all cars now which make cars more efficient and eco-friendly, eventually they will work out ways to get futher but consumers can speed this up buying those that are available now.

Put pressure on governments to make GTL and LPG a manditory requirement at all fueling stations and it can help customers make the right decisions.

  6. They can only sell what we buy.

  7. I do so regularly.

The car companies squished the electric car in the early 20th century, did their level best to get rid of rail transportation (far more efficient than truck), and now would rather sell big heavy (high profit) vehicles than efficient ones.

I've written nasty letters to GM and Ford - I drive a Prius (and yes, I sniff my own farts) - I can't wait for there to be an economic Tesla.
