Question:

Why isn't earning air miles considered a waste of energy and gasoline reserves?

I saw a short story on tv the other day about airline miles and how people are taking all sorts of short trips just to gain airline miles. They don't mind standing in line for hours because they consider it a game. I don't wish to put a damper on peoples' fun but isn't that a waste of gasoline for the airlines (because the more people that fly the more flights they have to have therefore the more gasoline the airline uses) and a waste of reserves? Isn't it strange that we insist we "need" more and more gasoline while the other half of us are wasting it like crazy? And shouldn't that be brought to the attention of someone like maybe an earth saving group? Your comments please.

  1. if you have no people flying short haul flights then the airlines wont offer them the train or busses are loads of fun on short runs they are cheaper and busses generally run on bio diesel now and trains well more people on them add arail car less people remove a rail car.Governments subsidize the airline industry they need to subsidize the busses or rail industries more

  2. The airplane is going to fly and burn gas if there's a person in that seat or not.

So why are you getting all worked up about what others are doing?

  3. It should be.

If Airline doesn't sell enough tickets the plane won't fly.

If a plane is lighter it won't burn as much fuel either.
