  1. Yes I honestly believe that you do have to be rich to get a missing person's picture nationwide. My brother has been missing since October and I have been fighting to get his picture nationwide, and we're not rich so God forbid anyone help us out. You can bet that if I lived in a 3 million dollar house and owned six cars he would have already been found!

  2. Noooo!!!! you don't have to be rich!!! but YOU have to inform the channel that the kid is missing because otherwise how are they supposed to know that the child is missing??!! You have to tell THEM and then they'll put up the picture and the details.

  3. Oh dear another dig at madeleine mcann is it. Take it up with the tv stations and news papers instead of griping on here.

  4. Well ...you know the saying "The squeeky wheel gets the oil"...

this is what happens. Some of them might not be legitimate.

Sometimes the local authorities do not have enough funding to pursue certain cases etc. etc. It's hard to tell.

The family of the mising have to inform the local media and provide the necessary informations to pursue the case ...and this has to be promptly ...not a month later or a year later etc.etc. They have to give pictures, where was the missing person last seen, with whom etc.etc.

  5. No, you don't have to be rich to get your missing picture on the TV. Many people who are missing, particularly children, aren't rich and are shown on TV.

And please don't advocate laws governing what gets put on the news. We need LESS government regulations in our life honey, not more!

  6. That news program would have to run 24/7 and not report anything else.

  7. They should be!!!

  8. Only the cute white ones go on TV...  seems like the rest we don't care about.

  9. It's not exactly about being rich, but about catching the attention of a broadcaster.  There are thousands of missing persons cases each year and it would be impossible to have every one covered, especially because many cases are just run-aways.  Natalee Holloway was the perfect example of how the media will waste countless hours covering one story because it represents many others.  She wasn't the only missing girl in America at the time, but if you watched CNN, you'd think that.  Basically, the mainstream media is very flawed and unable to come up with their own stories, so most "news" goes unreported.

  10. They tend to do the stories that are more interesting or scandalous because it's all about ratings (which equals money).  Really everything in this world all boils down to money.  Sad but true.

  11. Plenty of people go missing every day around the world.  The people who get covered in the media usually have extremely determined and organized family or friends who make an effort to get the story out to the news, organize search parties, etc.  It does help to have someone who is media savvy, or at least willing to keep journalists updated on the case.  It also helps if there's an interesting angle to the case like a strong suspicion of foul play, or a missing person with a disability.  Not fair, but there is a limited amount of access.
