  1. It's not a sport, although Archery and Dressage seem to have made it in - neither of which I'd consider as a sport.

There is constant argument about whether golf is a sport or a game.  The same argument surrounds snooker, darts, etc.  I think the olympics have tended to avoid the sports/games where their classification is undecided.

  2. Coz it's not a sport... -_-'

  3. Because golf is not so popular all over the world ( it is considered as a game played by the elites). It is too costly for the few spectators who will pay to watch it.

  4. cuz golf puts ppl to sleep

  5. It was official olympics sport in 1900-1920 but after 1920 it went too professional and all golf federations didnt care to let it to become olympics anymore.

  6. It's probably too big and they have now where to play it.

  7. I’d go with the answerer who told you about golf’s brief Olympic and professional history…

I’ll now try to fill in any gaps, my way…

    It Still Is A Sport

Golf (great golf ) requires great accuracy, a good brain for strategy – and yes, physical abilities too, like upper body power and flexibility, and yes, legs for walking through the 18 holes. And every course is different. There is no short-cut to practice.

Think about it. Shooting is considered a sport.

And recently, even BMX was added as an Olympic sport.

    Resources

Yes, The answerer who mentioned space is correct. Next to motor racing, I cannot think of another sport that uses up such a gigantic amount of resources. You can get around this by using an existing course, though.

The time factor could also be an issue. A game of 18 holes takes up as much time as a Marathon does. But on the other hand, if viewers can sit through a Marathon or a road bicycle race, then I’ll still ask, why not golf?

    Popularity

Never doubt golf’s popularity. It is not the old fashioned game anymore. And it is not just for ‘old gentlemen’ anymore. It is competitive. It is glamorous. And let’s not forget or underestimate the Ladies’ PGA scene either. Need I even say the words ‘potential’ and ‘appeal’?

    The Pros

Like the previous answerer mentioned, golf is mostly all about the pro players now. However, if young, world-standard players, both men and women, can keep coming up (for example, in golf-obsessed Korea etc.), we need not worry about seeing only the pro ‘big boys’ all the time.

    We Still Have PGA

Lastly, even though I have stated my reasons for wanting golf represented in the Olympics, I would not be too saddened if it never comes to be. After all, PGA and LPGA are top-notch tournaments that are worth watching, even if only golf fans know about them.

  8. Not enough time since they added Guitar Hero.
