  1. cause some people are incredably boring

  2. -I agree.

-It's a tougher sport b/c you have to balance on skates whereas other sports just require feet balance.

    -It's a d**n shame isn't it?

-I remember watching a Fantasy League show on ESPNEWS on a Sunday morning, the guy who does NFL, after watching some analyst in Canada do NHL, said that's why we have him do it, we don't care.

    -That stuck with me since.

-I love checking people at the door of criticism to hockey.

    -Until you play, don't say.

  3. Sorry, but the USA isn't the entire world.

  4. The sad truth is hockey will always struggle for acceptance in the US for a number of reasons..  First, most of the players are foreigners which does help it sell there.  Second, it's a winter sport that doesn't play well in warmer climes.  Third, to understand the game it helps if you have played it (second point comes in here again).  And lastly, as a fan of the game , to watch it and enjoy it requires you pay attention.  For most American sports fans it's too hard to follow when there's little break in the action and the players all skate in different directions (instead of going around and around).  Boogity-boogity-boogity need I say more?

  5. Because hockey is more of a Canadian sport and sadlyBaseball and football are more important to them. You shood look for a new station that focuses on hockey.

  6. The biggest problem is that after the NHL lockout in 2005 ESPN refused to renegotiate their tv contract with them and without ESPN showing games they have also really cut back on the amount of hockey that they show on sportscenter. If you want to see hockey then i highly suggest getting NHL Centerice if you have Time Warner Cable, it shows every game and it's not too bad for price considering what you get from it.

  7. Here in Canada, it dominates the news.

It also has a solid footing in Central Europe.

Hockey's ratings in America actually have improved post-lockout.  The ratings are on a par with sports like golf, US college basketball, and similar.  Americans are more familiar with football, baseball, and basketball; the percentage of Americans who have played hockey is quite small in comparison to other sports.  Think about the journos who cover American sport; my guess is none of them have never even put a pair of skates on, much less played shinny or a proper game of hockey.

Look at soccer; you've had this huge wave of participation and still, among the elder set, it's still viewed as a "foreign" game in much of America.

  8. mostly because the "sports tv world" is ESPN and ESPN and the NHL are on very bad terms right now, so they are doing there best pretty much shunning the NHL, and most people into sports watch sportcenter, which barel recognizes the NHL, which is pretty much because of the lock out

  9. I wouldn't say its not accepted (if it weren't they wouldn't mention it at all). But I don't think it has as much popularity as football and baseball. Sports television is for the fans, and if a majority is for a certain sport they are going to mostly show that sport. If they showed what they liked, the ratings wouldn't be as much as they are. Hockey just isn't as popular in the U.S. as it is in Canada and other European countries.

  10. I noticed that in the US too.

When I was in Cali for a while they didn't even show hockey highlights most of the time... it was really weird.

That's the only think I love about Canadian TV is the fact that hockey is the center of attention (although sometimes a little too much so.)
