Why isn't my 1993 Pontiac firebird running?

i just bought a 1993 pontiac firebird and the guy i bought the vehicle from said that the reason the vehicle isn't running is because it needs a serpentine belt and a ac compressor...does this sound right to anyone???

  1.   Those two items have NOTHING to do with the car starting and running.If the car doesn't run, there is something else wrong. You do need them to drive it but neither will keep it from running.


  2. Well he could be right, but who likes the sound of the seller, telling you that?

    If the serpentine belt runs the alternator as well as the A/C compressor, and the A/C unit seized, then he cut or removed the belt, the car may not run (for long) without an alternator, and probably needs a new or recharged battery.

    It still would not run for long without an alternator charging the system.  The car is old and could have multiple issues?
