I don't know what the f***ing h**l I could have done to my computer that would make it just stop recognizing or "accepting" my firewire connection when I hook it up to import videos. could I have somehow uninstalled the driver? I'm using Windows XP on my PC, so can anyone give me the instructions on how to check what's wrong? I'm pretty pissed right now so sorry for the intensity... I swear I'm about to shoot this computer. everything goes wrong with it. thanks to anyone who can help.

  1. try to check your IEEE 1394 Bus host controller if t'is working properly (drivers):

    - Click start/ control panel/ performance & maintenance/

    - double click on system/ hardware/ device manager

    - check if there is an installed device under IEEE 1394 Bus host controller (brand- 'Texas Instr' or what )

    - double click on the 'Texas' device & do trouble shooting/ updating driver

if it's working properly, check your firewire cable next

  2. Since you neglected to tell us the make & model of your camcorder or the make & model of your PC you don't have many options!! Consult your manual!! There is a whole section devoted to your answer!! If you don't have one, you should be able to download one from the manufacturers support site.

  3. try to restart your computer again and no profanity please

  4. Under 'Device Manager' remove your Firewire device, then under Hardware, search for newly installed hardware, it may need to just reistall the driver -

Do you have another cable you can test too? That could be the issue as well.
