  1. Is there a possible chance that you might have plugged your fire wire cable in the wrong way in your F / W pci card ?

If you have You will have shorted out the DV out on the camera, wich means Damage to the mother board in camcorder.

I know about this because I did it with my Sony Cam. I Know they say you cant plug it in the wrong way because of the shape of the plug, But somehow I managed to do it.

  2. Check with customer support of your camcorder manufacturer for Apple compatibility issues.

  3. we don't know what camcorder you are using, we don't know if you made any changes to the camcorder or the computer...

Normal things to look for when iMovieHD or FinalCut cannot see the camcorder to import video from miniDV tape or Digital8 tape based camcorders:

    1) Is the camcorder in "Play" mode?

    2) Are you using the firewire cable or the USB cable?

    3) When transferring video, does the camcorder's manual indicate the camcorder needs to be plugged into AC (not just running on btteries)... and if the it is plugged into AC, is there power at that outlet? How do you know? I plugged the AC adapter into my camcorder and a power strip - and I started panicking when it would not work - only to find out that the power strip was not ON (it was plugged into the wall!)

    4) Is the firewire port on the Mac active? System Preferences: Network: under "Show", select "Network Port Configurations" - there needs to be a checkmark in the "Built-in Firewire" item...
