Why isn't my mouse working?

I can't get my wireless mouse to work on my laptop. The batteries are good and my computer says the mouse is working, but it doesn't move the little arrow. I also tried using a mini-mouse with a cord, but it doesn't work either. Any ideas?

You didn't state the OS. However, there can be many reasons for causing the phenomena. Worst case would be a virus, best a simple driver problem. Just switch off the computer completely which means also pulling the battery of the laptop. Then switch it on again with the cord mouse attached and if the problem persists delete the mouse driver(s) with the device manager. Restart and it should work. If you then try the wireless mouse and it happens again, you know that it is a driver problem.
