Question:

Why isn't my new TV AutoTuning properly and what can I do about it?

I'm using the auto tune function on this TV I just bought, but it's not picking up any of the 5 basic channels. It either has static with a vague picture or a blue screen with nothing on it. Any ideas as to what I can do? I'm in the UK, so should get at least BBC1, BBC2, ITV, and Channel 4. Thanks!

  1. You did what I did when I first got my tv.  I tried to auto- program my over the air channels with the antenna set to cable.  Won't work.  switch the antenna's using the button on the remote.  Also, make sure the antenna is plugged into the right slot on the set.  Don't mix up the cable and over the air antenna slots.

  2. Connect an antenna first.

  3. Unless there is a thunderstorm in your area you don't have static.

The white dots which look a bit like a snowstorm is due to a very weak signal (it's called a noisy signal), so it sounds as if you have a bad aerial or cable or a bad connection in the aerial system.
