Why isn't sweet home alabama the alabama state song?

it makes perfect sice in stead of the alabama song witch is preasently the state song how come this song is't the state song

  1. Maybe because of the racist undertones in the song.

    Neil Young wrote a song called Southern man that called for white men in the south, to be Christians and stop racism.

    Among other things "sweet home Alabama"  has the line "i hope Neil young will remember, that southern man don't need him around"


  2. Petition for it. The Scottish national anthem (Oh Flower O' Scotland) is a relatively modern song, which replaced the older "Scotland the Brave", due to popular opinion.

  3. Because a great song would become staid overnight, if it became the official song of AL.

  4. The positive reference to controversial Governor Wallace makes it politically incorrect when one considers the large Black population in the state.
