Why isn't the US defending Georgia from Russian attacks?

Isn't Georgia our ally? Why are we standing by while our ally is being bullied by the Russians? We have invaded other countries and defended others with force for far less aggressive acts!

This problem is in russias territory. Georgia is best off to let ossetia break off as it wants. Even if it means loosing part of that pipeline USA holds so dearly.

Heck, i remember not too long ago USA in the name of NATO was bombing civilians in serbia so that a territory could break off. Makes no sense for us to condemn russia for doing the same thing in a much smaller scale.

huh! to the previous post- where did we read about Georgia bombing Ossetia? well, even CNN wrote that!!! Although only in the middle of a huge article devoted to how awful Big Bad Russia- and it was only 1,5 line, saying that Georgia bombed Ossetia on Thursday, but whole article how  Russia came to Georgia on Friday.

that's how they manipulate you, americans!! and Russia didn't invade even Georgia- it came into Ossetia- where Russia has a right to go to protect these people- the agreement was signed in 1992 by Russia, Ossetia and Georgia that Russia will keep peacemakers there. so, what Russia should've stand by when Georgia was doing genocide towards people they call their citizen??!! duh!!  great logic! and why do you think that the US should immediately help to the AGGRESSOR??? US has nothing even to do with  Georgia and Ossetia, while Russia is a neighbor!!

and Russia let Georgia get separated from it, when USSR broke down, then why Georgia can't let Ossetia go?? DOUBLE STANDARDS!!

Russia did not attack Georgia the first. Russia has started to protect ossetic people from the Georgian aggression. Up to when Russia has started to protect ossetic citizens and the peacemakers - it has been killed not less than thousand peace citizens of Ossetia. Treacherous attack of Georgia against Ossetia has begun at 23.45, on August, 7th. At night, that is characteristic for Hitler. The military answer of Russia to the Georgian aggression has begun at 14.00, but already on August, 8th. Already after hundreds Russian peacemakers and thousand peace inhabitants of Ossetia were lost. Russia has not been measured to be at war. Georgia has begun intrusion on territory of Ossetia of the first. Russia all has begun protection of peace citizens. In favour of that Russia did not want war speaks some facts: 1. Day of the beginning of military aggression of Georgia - day of the beginning of Olympiad in China. On a hand of the USA to distract attention of citizens of all countries from Olympiad and by that to bring financial losses to China - to one of the main competitors on a world scene. It is no secret, that Georgia is a puppet in hands of the USA. 2. The date started of military aggression of Georgia coincides with the beginning of pre-election campaign in the USA, directly is сonnected with the candidate for presidents of the USA - senator Makkejnom. wtf?????????? i'm from georgia and have followed the news from the begining. what do you mean by georgia starting the war and russia being so innocent? wtf with youi people? h**l ! so that's cos you read russian sites or what? georgia has never attacked anyone in it's entire history ppl . and from when has the land belonged to russians? they attack the whole georgia, even the capital city, gori, cxinvali, etc, etc. why? and who know why isn't usa defending georgia, that's my question as well,  but please wake up ppl.. please do wake up...

Pathetic! Your views are so skewed. Georgia is the one that's being pathetic. They were the ones who attacked the Ossetia region first last week. Everyone just shunned that because it's Russia and Russia's the bad guy. Georgia was the one who was bombing Ossetia. And Russia is America's ally too. And, I'm American by the way. If you took more interest in Russian history, you'd be way more informed.
