Why isn't the british army called the royal army?

They have Royal Marine, Navy and Air Force but not the Army.

  1. Basically because the professional army is descended from Cromwell's New Model Army during the Civil War. It could hardly be called the "Royal Army" now when it was fighting the Royalists then!


  2. Because that is the way it is set up.

    Just like the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force
