Question:

Why isn't the loss of sea ice in the Artic contributing to sea level rise?

There is a projection that the expanse of the Artic ice cover will be completely free and open for shipping this summer. Just a passage was available last summer.

  1. Its like ice cubes in a glass of water.

  2. much of what is seen melting, was melted 50 years ago, and refroze since then.  It is on/in/over water and thus it's mass is dispersing an equal amount of water (not just for what is under water, but for the entire amount, thus if the entire piece would melt, you would have no net increase and depending on the amount that was actually under the water line, you could have a minor decrease in sea level, as  a piece of ice takes up more area than it does as water.

There are some islands on (I believe, if memory serves correctly) on the north of Greenland that have appeared to be peninsulas for the past 40-50 years, but there are photos of people standing next to them in the late 1940's/early 1950's with a channel of water between the large island and the 'finger islands'.  (i think this refers to them but without the image i recall seeing elsewhere[i think it was a NatGeo image]: http://www.worldclimatereport.com/index....

  3. Because most of the ice is already floating in water just like a boat and so it displaces water just like a boat does. What could raise sea level is ice on land and there is only enough there for at the most a two foot rise in sea level world wide.

  4. Maybe because the sea ice is at record levels?

  5. Because the ice is already IN the ocean, whether it is solid or liquid, unlike Antarctic ice which is on LAND

  6. It is - but there's a way to go yet.

  7. if the arctic ice melts then sea levels will go down on the contrary if antarctic ice melts sea levels will go up it is because antarctic ice sits on land while arctic ice floats in water. But the thing is that Antarctic ice has actually been in a constant state of growth for the last several years. So we should technically be worried about there not being enough ocean for the dolphins and squid and everything lol

  8. its going to eventually. if we keep up on destroying the earth. GO RECYCLE.

  9. Media hype and deceptive Al Gore slide shows notwithstanding, greenhouse gas concentrations demonstrably do not determine temperatures. The mainstream media is routinely sloppy and inaccurate reporting about evidence of global warming and other environmental matters.

The environmental alarmists do whatever they can to avoid actual debate. The environmentalist movement is not a grassroots phenomenon driven by scruffy idealists but an elite-driven movement that lards the coffers of pressure campaigns with wealth - commonly inherited, often corporate, and far too-frequently looted from the taxpayer.

  10. What disappoints me is that Al Gore promised me that my land would be Ocean Front Property if the Arctic melted..There goes another pipe dream down the drain.

  11. It is contributing to the high rise in sea level.. Read the IPCC and you will find more details about this increase

  12. becasue there isn't ANY ICE LOSS and global warming is jsut its natural cycle
