Why isn't there Amtrak service from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

It seems like a scam to make us buy more fuel and plane tickets? What's going on?

blame the government for not putting any money in to Amtrak were they dump millions in to the highway system. there was a can be service to Las Vegas prior to Amtrak but was not prioritized buy gov or Amtrak but they would probably love to go there but the need better funding. one of the other blocks is to the Union Pacific RR (I've never liked them) they have the track there. I don't what happened to the union station there.

A high speed train was built for the Los Angeles-Las Vegas route. It was kept in Oakland Ca. docks for several years before it was moved to Seattle. The service was never started because the track is mostly single, so the passenger train would impair the passage of the frequent freight trains. To make double track would have disturbed the habitat of the desert tortoise: President Bill Clinton vetoed the Bill to satisfy the demands of the "environMENTALists.

Amtrak *does* provide a bus for this route

(as there is also Megabus which ply this route as well

as well as (yikes) the DOG (aka Greyhound)

plus several tour companies have schedule runs to casinos

as well

so there  are lots of way to avoid driving your car to Las Vegas

Because Amtrak train is tooooo slow...

Nobody wants to ride on an Amtrak that slow.

Plus the seats are uncomfortable. And if

I want to sit at the lounge, smokers are in there... eww.. smelly.

It would be nice if USA build the fastest train....

Amtrak used to have a train named Desert Wind that ran from LA to LV.  It was discontinued in the early 1990s because the route was losing ridership and money, and Amtrak's federal subsidies were being cut.

That was before the building boom in LV though.  Currently Amtrak still has to fight for every dollar in Congress and still cutting service, so reinstating the route is unlikely.

bcuz the roads r hilly and desert. it will cost alot. n theres other ways to transport frm l.a. to l.v.
