Why isn't there a channel one!?

there is one , it is a programming station for the broadcasters, its not open to the public though, my uncle is with channel 7 news

Probably the same reason why they don't a channel zero.

It has to do with how the frequencies of radio and eventually television were distributed throughout the years. The FCC eventually decided channel 1 should be a "land mobile" class that would be used by dispatchers and police.

More recently, however, comcast (a cable provider) began using channel 1 as an On Demand channel where you can watch movies and shows whenever you like.
