Why isn't there a rainbow every time it rains?

  1. a rainbow occurs when light from the sun is bent (or refracted) through the rain for example fill a glass with water then stick a pencil in it see how the pencil looks broken in half thats refraction

    and there has to be sunlight to be bent so basicly THE SUN NEEDS TO BE OUT

    It is not always sunny after it rains, which is the key factor to produce a rainbow.

    The sunlight is refracted by the moisture or raindrops to produce the colours, just the same as produced by a prism.
