Why isn't there gravity underwater?

How come when you're in water, picking up people is so much easier (ex: I can pick up my mom), and it depends on whether you sink to the bottom (while when your on land, you always stay on the ground because of gravity)?

  1. Al is right.  There is gravity under water.  Try picking up a heavy rock underwater.  The reason you can lift people in water is because of the oxygen in the human body.  It makes you buoyant.

  2. gravity still has effect on water (or it would be floating)

but what your talking about is not gravity

it is buoyancy. Buoyancy depends on mass and weight.

so things seem light when you pick them up underwater because the Item's buoyancy is helping with the weight.

    get it?

  3. There is gravity underwater. Gravity is a universal force. You just fell lighter underwater because you're being lifted by the water around you...put simply.

  4. Think about it this way. If you drop a coin into a pool will it stink to the bottom? Yes. Gravity does exist within water. Somethings will not sink as fast as other things. You can compare that with a feather and a tennis ball being dropped off a building. Both are affected by gravity but the presence of air makes the feather fall slower than the ball. The same can be applied to water. The presence of water will slow down things that are sinking. Not a scientific answer, sorry.

  5. There is gravity. that is what holds the water to the ground.

The air in the water, makes easier to pick someone up,

But does not prevent them, from "drowning." So wear a

life jacket, when swimming, please. <}:-})

  6. gravity is everywhere , it is underwater too it is due to your mass , whenever you have mass you will have gravity

it fells light in water because of the upwared force applied by water , this is called boyent force and is equal to mass of water displaced .........

  7. there is,you just don't fell it. but the water is so strong that it holds you up,even though water is a liquid it still is something that can keep you up.just of why boats float on water.

  8. there is gravity, but there is also a bouyancy force because of the water. it is equal to the amount of water u displace, i.e. your volume in water.

this counteracts the gravity making u appear lighter,

  9. The term you are looking for is buoyancy.    There is gravity underwater...thats why objects like rocks sink.

  10. as long as you are on the earths surface you are subject to gravity. the reason why you can pick up people easier is because water is much denser that air so it can support more of your mothers wieght making you work less

  11. there is gravity under water.

    there is also buyonce.

put simply, buyonce is the difference in density between water and the object in the water. why does oil float atop of water? because it is less dense than water. why does your body stay on earth? because it is denser than air. see?

  12. I think it's the density of the water that gives you the impression that it's easier to pick up things but there is definitely gravity. Otherwise things wouldn't sink.
