Malaria kills far more people in Africa than HIV, and it is easily preventable and treatable.

  1. It may be partly because HIV is an infectious disease which is a problem in the U.S. as well.  Whereas, malaria is not contagious and as you say treatable but HIV is not easily treatable. Also, HIV is a relatively recent disease and malaria is not.  Malaria is not a problem in the U.S. so it doesn't get the news coverage.

  2. HIV just gets more media attention. I agree, malaria is a much more serious health risk in Africa, but it just doesn't sell magazines like HIV.

In the US, we spend a LOT more money on HIV research than we do on cancer research.  But cancer kills many more people than AIDS.

  3. I think HIV is more "sensational" news.  People are more scared.  It sells more papers.

  4. I don't why it isn't publicize more. All I know is, it show the level of caring that other countries and people have for Africa.
