  1. Because their season is over and they're giving him a good, hard look to see if he can develop into the type of player they thought he would be. He's also out of options and he definitely wouldn't clear waivers. Don't forget, there is still a "player to be named" in the Sabathia trade.

Edit: To Utter Chaos - the main reason the Indians are in last place is because of all the injuries (Hafner, Carmona, Martinez). You take away any team's 3 & 4 hitter along with one of their best starting pitchers, you're going to have problems. Also, their bullpen is now totally unreliable except for Rafael Perez.

  2. Look at the Roster.... We have Marte and Gonzalez for 3B, they are both not the best.  If you send Marte down you only have Gonzalez who is also used on 1B. We have nobody in Buffalo either who we could promote. Cabrera is pretty good at 2B but is an option if Barfield is back. Carroll is still struggling with 2B and it seems he has not what it takes for 3B. Peralta is our SS and not considered any other position. Garko stays at 1B coz he is starting to become the 1B we need. I say hold on to Marte, he can only get better

  3. I believe Marte is out of options as they say, which would mean something like if they tried to send him down instead he'd like become an instant free agent or some such craziness kind of deal.

  4. Marte and Gonzalez are their only 3B. Beside's he'd need to clear waivers and he'd likely be claimed. I thin Caroll played 2B in Montreal but don't think he can at this pt. The only alternative in Buffalo is Morgan Ensberg

Cleveland traded it's best Young 3rd baseman Aaron Herr who was playing great in Buffalo to Cincinatti for CASH. Bad deal

Marte's a good young player. I woulddn't send him down espeially when the alternativre is a 32yr old 3B. The season's gone. Stcik w/the young guys

  5. You need to put more detail in your question.

  6. This season is a lost cause so might as well play him as much as possible to see if he's the answer for next season or if they have to go get somebody else.

They failed to do this with Brandon Phillips and ended up trading him for Jeff Stevens.  If they would have stuck with Phillips then they wouldn't have had to trade 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff to the Padres for 2B Josh Barfield a year later.

Phillips has 17 HR, 66 RBI and a .273 BA for Cincinnati

Kouzmanoff has 17 HR, 60 RBI and a .281 BA for San Diego

    compare that to

Barfield who had 3 HR, 50 RBI and a .243 BA in 2007 and

Marte who has 3 HR, 9 RBI and a .185 BA in 2008.

Now you understand one of the reasons the Indians are in last place.

chillwax: I know injuries and a faltering bullpen are the main reasons the Tribe is in last place.  That's why I mentioned it was "one of the reasons".  Despite all of there other problems, if they had Phillips at 2B and Kouzmanoff at 3B this year they certainly wouldn't be in last place.

  7. Because this is an audition for next season.  Wedge is committed to determine if Marte' has a future with the Tribe.

While he'll be here for the rest of this year, my guess is he'll be gone by next.

  8. I know what u mean, seeing as how they have so many other options for 3rd base now that Casey Blake is gone. Marte isn't great but he's still only 23 and the indians are basically playing for next year anyway. I say keep him at the major league level

  9. Blake is gone who will play third base?Wedge is not the best manager
