  1. Because the goverment call it racism after letting in any F$cker they want.

  2. I am very loyal to my country,England there is no other place like it.

  3. i'm patriotic, and i'm not even english!

and all that bullshit people are saying about it being illegal to raise the english flag up - please, get your facts right.

  4. Our time as a global superpower has come and gone, and left us a legacy of colonial guilt. Scottish, Welsh and Irish patriotism are fine; but lacking a balancing history of foreign repression, English patriotism has uncomfortable links with a mindset that endorsed the Amritsar Massacre and Boer War concentration camps, to name but two. This, sadly, leaves it open to co-option by white supremacists; and thus a vicious circle is formed.

However, given what happened to the Native Americans and the history of slavery, that's at best a partial explanation. On one level, the difference is simply time. England has existed for over a thousand years, and school children are taught little or nothing of its origins. There was no revolutionary struggle for freedom, and there is no written Constitution. The country's very existence can be taken for granted. One thing that is periodically debated by the talking heads is that, yes, pride in one's country is a Good Thing, but what does that mean, exactly? Dunkirk? Nelson? Good Queen Bess? Magna Carta? Football? Aside from the Royal Family (shared with the rest of the UK and several remnants of Empire overseas) and the St George's Cross, there's little on which to focus.

So, there's no easy answer here - claiming it's purely a knee-jerk 'OMG RACISM!' response is -  at the very best - an over-simplification. All I can come up with in the way of a short answer is that, after the Second World War ended and the Empire fractured, the English lost something; and they're still trying to figure out how to get it back together again without the bad parts.

*British* patriotism suffers from some of the same problems.

  5. we dont need to have patriotism as we already know how c**p we are. The US hasnt realised yet.

  6. because every time you try to be patriotic you are accused of being an intollerant racist by the government and their political correctness thought police

  7. What Philip H said.

It's severely frowned on by the PC brigade ( which arrived here some years ago courtesy of our ex-colonial cousins).

You are encouraged to say you are Welsh, Scots or Irish, but NOT English.  "European" is the new buzz word.

  8. They were in the past... cough cough...umm... it led to some pretty interesting global situations. Some decided to stop being patriotic and call themselves American... Canadian...Australian...New Zealander...South African...Zimbabwean...Zambian...Namibia... list goes on. Hands up if your unpatriotic ancestor woul roll over in his/her grave to see you raise St George's cross... smile.

  9. we haven't been raised on patriotism, nobody seems to be to bothered

  10. the government and politically correct wont let you. Open the link for examples of flags being banned

  11. unfortunately for us, being patriotic about our country had been deemed as racist by the political correct crowd who have given our rights away and want to ban christmas and all other christian festivals, they may soon ban english as our language too, you see we may offend a member of a minority, and we can't do that now can we!

  12. Because any form of Patriotism in England is stamped out by socialist government's as Racism.

  13. Because most of the muppets who think themselves patriots are nothing but knuckle-dragging, racist bigots.

BNP supporters who bang on about being patriotic without even understanding the meaning of the word are perfect examples of this.

And nobody in their right mind likes to assume guilt by association.
