because not all countries in the world play "amercian" football. In the rest of the world, football is rugby or soccer.

Because football isnt national.  Football is soccor.  American football only exists in America and a few parts of Europe and Canada.  As for the U.S. olympic team, Lopez Lomong held our flag, and we have 721 athletes I think.
