  1. The paper industry. Hemp makes fine quality paper and the forest products industry shut them down with the help of crooked politicians ages ago.

  2. Becuase it is a controlled substance.

  3. In 1619 Jamestown Colony, Virginia enacted laws ordering farmers to grow hemp. Similar laws were enacted in Massachusetts in 1631, Connecticut in 1632 and the Chesapeake Colonies in the mid-1700's.

Even though the U.S. government encouraged American farmers to grow hemp for WWII and had even accepted it as payment of taxes in Colonial America, it is now prohibited to grow hemp in the United States.

  5. Basically it's illegal:

Hemp and marijuana are commonly associated with one another. They belong in the same genus, Cannabis, and historically, there has been much debate about the distinction of the species of this genus. However, currently, both hemp and marijuana are classified as the same species, Cannabis sativa, so they are from the same plant. Even though the THC content in hemp is much less than the levels in marijuana, and hemp cannot get anyone "high" , the federal government has the mind set that legalizing hemp would also lead to the legalization of growing marijuana.
