  1. Captain Zina Garrison explained that she only chooses one doubles specialist for the team. That way if one of her singles starters gets injured she has someone comfortable enough with singles to take her place.

    Fortunately (or unfortunately) for Garrison she has 2 very capable doubles specialists in Lisa Raymond and (the newly naturalized US citizen and current doubles # 1) Liezel Huber. Neither woman has played a professional singles match in years.

    Last tie against Germany Raymond played. This tie is Huber's turn.
