My indian ringneck parakeet is showing no progress. I have been training him for 4 months and he still will NOT step on my finger while inside his cage. So here is EXACTLY WHAT HE DOES WHEN I STICK MY HAND IN THE CAGE!!. 1. When i first walk up to the cage he gets on to the side of the cage and runs to the back. 2. when i put my hand in the cage he flops around. 3. When i put millet in the cage he will come to it and i slowly move the millet out of the cage and thats the only way i can get him out. 4. when i get him out of the cage i bring him into the dining room away from his cage. I stick my finger up to him and he will step up of of his T-stand and then i set him back down and give him a treat. I repeat several times and after about 15 mins i bring him back to the cage. If i leave the cage door open and move away from the cage he will hop out on the door and get on the top of the cage. And then i go over there and get him. How can i get him to hop on my finger to get him out??

  1. Because the cage is HIS domain and he makes the rules.

You may be master when he's out of it, but in his cage, he'll do as he pleases. Don't fight it. You're lucky he doesn't make a snack out of your finger in there.

Bird parronting is part compromise, part supervise.

Cage issues require the compromise part.

  2. grab him and shake him......if he bites you...slap the c**p out of him......lol......i dont know....maybe he dont like you.......
