  1. Actually,is the biggest country in central america and it has beautiful mountains and a good climate.

It has the best transportation with Costa Rica and before back in the 1900's it was more gorgeous than now because there was a big earthquake that destryoyed all the beautiful places of Nicaragua.

Though people always say that is ugly don't believe them.

  2. because it's a poor county with a bad reputation. google nicaragua. you'll see.

  3. Nicaragua is gorgeous, it is beautiful in many ways... their people also great. The problem is they have a very unstable government and probably not the most secure place to travel.

If you want the tropical experience... I recommend, Costa Rica,  just as beautiful but with better infrastructure and by far a more secure location.

  4. Nicaragua is very leftist and blames the Sandinistas and other things on the US. Nicaragua does not have a very developed infrastructure. That being said, the people are friendly, nice and love to talk to most foreigners. If you speak even passable Spanish youll be family in no time. Lots of places to explore.

  5. Bad vibes from past history.  There was a lot of bad feelings between the U.S. and Nicaragua in the 70s and 80s.  You can find some information on the website below.

  6. not a great country whatsoever

  7. nicaragua was perhaps my favorite country in central america.  i liked it as much as mexico and peru even (have not been to all of south america tho)

here is why you don't hear/find as much as you should.

    nicaragua is very poor

nicaragua's government and the US's government do not get along.

nicaragua has a black past from the 70s and 80s only surpassed by el salvador which is even more notorious....and perhaps guatemala which is much less notorious, but a lot of bad stuff happened there.  but since the war there was not as famous....people still go there in droves.

nicaragua has few colorful indeginous people like guatemala.

nicaragua is next to the very popular costa rica and it gets bypassed.

however, the good about nicaragua that gets overlooked.

the people....so  much more lively a lot more fun than the costa ricans.

the buildings.....although in disrepair, it has more colonial buildings than most of central america with the possible exception of guatemala.

the lake and island!!! isla olmopetec and lake nicaragua...with its petroglyphs and hikes and beauty.

grenada!!  colonial and lived in...perhaps too "lived in" for some.  so much activity.  i loved it.

masaya is great to learn about and watch crafters at work....right in their own home!!!  if the sweatshops and international businesses keep coming in...this art will be lost.

the jungle of the eastern half of the country

and the history of the war in the beautiful and green mountainous town of matagalpa

leon...a sanitized and very hot grenada....

corn islands (said to be very cool and english speaking.....just like bluefields....)

lonely planet has a guidebook that includes el salvador.

the infrastructure of nicaragua is not all that great.  it is rough around the ears only surpassed in central america in roughness by el salvador.

you CAN do it.  the people are way way great and it looks like that if you are asking these questions, you are interested in the country.
