Why isn’t Therrien a Jack Adams Trophy (Coach of the Year) finalist?

I am a loyal Red Wings guy...that said...

Therrien- 8- good strategist

Carbonneau- 8- good motivator

Boudreau- 8 - good player's coach

Tippett- 6- gets out-coached a lot

Carlisle- 8- good sense of Defensive hockey

Stevens- 9- good player's coach and strategist

Babcock- 9 player's coach, defensive and offensive genius

Lemaire- 7- defensive minded to a fault

Sutter- 7 - unproven in my eyes

Trotz- 6- just can't connect the dots...always seems to build a team but not one that can go anywhere

The Jack Adams trophy is based on the REGULAR season and the REGULAR season only. They only pick three. At the end of the season, the Pens were second in the East, a spot they were expected to get. The Canadiens and Caps, however, overachieved, which is usually attributed to the coach. Meanwhile, the Red Wings had the best record in all of hockey. That is why their coaches were chosen.

As far as my ratings:

Carbonneau: 6

Boudreau: 5

Tippett: 6

Carlisle: 6

Savard: 4

Stevens: 5

Babcock: 7

Lemaire: 8

Rating stuff on a scale of 1-10 is like so 2004.  Babcock is a finalist becuase the Wings were by far the best team in the NHL in the regular season.  Caronneau and boudreau are finalists because of the remarkable finsihes by the Caps during the season, especially the streak the Caps went on to get in the playoffs.

Therrien should be a finalist though.  The Pens have went through plenty of BS with the city of Pittsburgh and the orginization in general.  The team managed to keep winning and finished top in the Eastern Conference which was much better than expected.  I am suprised he isnt a nom instead of Carrby.

I truly think that a coach is only as good as the players he has.  Sure, some have effective systems, and motivational tactics, but it really comes down to the quality of the players.  Lemaire brought his system to Minnesota, and while they have been ok, they haven't reached the level of the Devils.  I think the main reason may be that their is no Broduer or Stevens in the Wild line-up.  

However, I will say that once a coach loses his players that it doesn't matter.

I'm loyal to the Dallas Stars. I would have given Tippett a higher score if this included the playoffs, and for that matter I would have given some of these coaches’ lower scores.
