  1. the name doesn't matter.

when it was Greek was Constantinoupole

now is Turkish and is Instabul,

    still stays the same place.....

btw Instabul is still from Greek words:

is-tin-polin (to the town) ...so ...for me is the same

a great town, even if WAS greek, even if  IS Turkish

  2. The origin of Istanbul is "Ä°slam bol" which is "plentiful islam" in Turkish. This is named after the Turks get the city from cristians..

  3. Because constantinoupoli

    is greek

    and Istanbul

    is turkish

since Istanbul is in Turkey and not Greece

    its Istanbul

besides its kind of obvious its Turkish Land

  4. why London and not Londres?

  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsQrKZcYt...

  6. Because that's how the owners of the city, i.e. Turks, choose to call it.

  7. We call it Ä°stanbul. You may call what ever you want...

  8. Why Constantinople and no Byzantium?

  9. Silly question!!Why would a Turkish city have a Greek name??By the way a beautiful city.Yia sou.

  10. it is not istabull

    it is istanbul

    why should it be constantinuopoli?

constantinople was conquered 600 years ago and bcame istanbul

it has been called istanbul for 600 years

  11. its so simple why do you say New York city but not New Amsterdam or skopje instead of "uskup" or komotini not "gumulcine"  this city has many names it's just one of them actually ottoman empire didnt change this name because Sultan Mehmet the conqueror declared himself as the emperor of eastern romans (like greeks)  we've been using "istanbul" as the official name after the creation of the turkish rebublic in 1923 it's changed in 1930 truly

Edit: to vasiliki  i have same feelings about one of your cities which is my hometown, the point is we call our turkish city names only in our language Not  for international saying
