Why it is important to adapt the way you communicate to meet the needs of other people?

It depends entirely on the situation. In my work, it is important that I help people cooperate to make plans. If they are angry, I will take on a role that I hope instills trust and allows them to communicate with me so that we can get things done.

When I am with my partner, I may sometimes be involved with what I am doing and not attend to his needs. Other times, I know when he wants to talk and when he needs my support. I think he has learned to kind of breathe heavily to attract my attention.

It is important at this time to let him know that I am listening to what he is saying and responding. If he is angry, I sit back and listen, rather than argue and ask for clarification. If he is sad, I listen intently and making soothing sounds.

By adapting to other people, I think we can have a happier existence because there is less friction and we can communicate in healthy ways. And I am not saying you should always act like a rug. It is also important to bring people up short if they become abusive.

Human beings are chameleons when it comes to communication. We have done this because people (and animals) who can adapt tend to live longer than those who don't. Because we are the only creature on earth with higher level language skills, survival often has meant to change our communication when in danger. The graveyards are full of people who cursed when they should have apologized.

I think that is the way human evolution works. Just look at the way younger generations talk these days with text messaging and instant messaging. They don't spell out their words but rather use words like LOL, GR8, etc.

Just wait 5 years to see what communication will be like then.

Communicate in a way that the receiver of the communication will be comfortable with.  This will be to your advantage, especially in business.  They will also find you 'user-friendly' and a good relationship can be created.

You need to make yourself understood.

use language and terminology  that is appropriate to the individual.All people have differing abilities to understand you might  need to break down what you are saying or use visual prompts in order to be understood, speak slower and clearer if there is a language,accent barrier

A surgeon wouldn't use the medical terminology to describe your operation with you, they would use easy to understand words in order for you to understand.but they  would communicate with colleagues using the jargon

They are adapting the way they communicate with you.
