Why it is said that only pinpointed colonies be counted for coliforms?

  1. because pinpoint colonies came from only 1 bacterial cell at least that's the assumption). If you have a weird shaped colony then it was probably made from several different cells and it's hard to determine how many contributed to the larger colony
