Question:

Why keep her distance?

It's been very hard for me to open up to other people. At work there's one girl who tries to get me out of my shell. I gave her a card and wrote that I'm glad that I've gotten a chance to get to know her and wanted to thank her for always being there for me and for listening to even tho I'm quiet.

She kind of kept her distance when I saw her at a party, but after she had a few drinks, she came up to me and thanked me. Then she told our friends how I wrote her a cute note and she said it was beautiful. I lowered my head and smiled but didn't say anything after that. She didn't really approach me after that exchange.

Why do you think she sort of kept her distance? Was it bad that I wrote the note?

  1. Maybe she feels as awkward as you do, and she doesn't want to embarrass you or make you feel uncomfortable. It is definitely NOT bad that you wrote the note; especially considering that she thanked you. That was a very gracious thing that you did, and all too rare.

Try being more friendly towards her next time you see her, she's already tried to break the ice with you from what I have read.

    Good luck. =)

  2. I think that you are over-analysing the situation.  She probably just wants to be friendly with you and everyone else in the workplace.  We all want to be on good terms with our co-workers.

I suggest that you sit down in the lunch room and begin talking to other people as well so that you can learn what interests them and therefore can have a good conversation with them.
