  1. To what polymer do you refer ? If it is a monoclonal antibody that has been fluorecently labeled or has a high mlar absorptivity chromophore attached ..one need not do the amplification step that avidin /biotin interaction affords..Mant people, including myself make our own monoclonals and have very easy ways to label them with fluorescein isothiocyanate for use in immunohistochemistry...we also are able to quite efficiently label lectins with chromophores for use in detecting abnormal carbohydrate clustering..It is all a matter of choice...avidin biotin can be used for amplifying weak signals such as those demonstrated by only a few molecules of surface makers , etc .
