  1. One of the best ways to understand the world and its history is to read literature. If you want to know what life was like during WWII read "The Diary of Ann Frank," life at Auschwitz read "Aucun de nous ne reviendra" (None of us Will Return) by a French political prisoner in there. The list goes on and on.

  2. the most obvious answer to this Q is bcoz it is enjoyable.Every body loves a good story, and many great works of literature tell memorable stories. These stories provide an escape from our daily lives by taking us to different times and places. We can go on a journy through the African jungle with Joseph Conrad,or we can be projected into future by science fiction writers like H.G. Wells. It is also a source of knowledge and information. It allows us to leave behind our age, family background and economic condition so that we can see the world from perspective of people who are completely different from us.

  3. You would be surprised how many of the classics are used in this day and age. So many references come from literature, and you don't know what people are talking about if you haven't read some of it. It's not a matter of learning literature, as much as it is reading and enjoying literature. Give it a chance. I know it takes a l-o-n-g time to read a book, but it's really worth it.   :-)
