  1. Everyone has teachers they THOUGHT were good or bad.  However, having read several threads here on what people thought were their best and worst teachers, it is clear that for many people, "best" just means those they liked best or thought were the most fun, which is not really the job of a teacher.  "Worst" usually comes down to someone perceived as uncaring, unfair, or mean.  Again, it doesn't mean that they didn't learn from the individual.

  2. it is not as simple as the previous person would like to think. Teachers do not teach all the same just as students do not learn all the same. One person in a class may think the teacher is the best, whereas, another thinks they stink. it is all a matter of HOW they learn. The worst part is that teachers USUALLY don't adapt. They plow on. to take time out for one slows the rest. the BEST teachers are ones that can do that and make all kids learn.

  3. Essentially it's about forming positive relationships with students in addition to the things mentioned above, which i agree wholeheartedly with, it's about being more than a teaching machine and really trying to relate to kids.

  4. Because the best teachers are firm, fair and make learning interesting and the worst have little control over the class, and their lessons are not interesting.

  5. You are interested in the subjects taught and how they were delivered by the teacher.

You like the teacher's personality--they are kind to you, they make you laugh, or they take you under their wing.

You remember something special you did in their class.

My "best"/favorite teacher taught us poetry through song lyrics. She was kind and fun but she was only a student teacher.

My "best"/most effective teacher had us sit in ABC order and take notes every second of the class. When she showed video clips, she had the clips timed to the second. She didn't waste a minute and she told us tons and tons of facts that we had to learn for a big test. I actually learned tons in her class even though it was hard and she was strict and not necessarily fun.

Therefore, it depends what you mean by "best"---most effective teacher or you just like them as a person.
