  1. Simply, so you can tell how fast you're going.  All speedo's are calibrated before they leave the factory, although you will normally be given the benefit of the doubt if you're within 10% of the limit.

  2. because they want you to feel like ur a racer

  3. to make it look cooler. to trick the driver into thinkin it can go thaqt fast..also mayb if u customize it..

  4. Sales.......

Way back when, if the speedo went to X MPH, the car would usually do it and more

  5. no. and may we go a week without this question again and again

  6. Any gauge that is used to measure something usually has a reading higher than what it would normally or would be possible to read.

I have a thermometer out back, that goes from -30 to over 130 degrees F. The thermostat for our AC/Heater goes from 40 to 90. The gas gauge on my car actually starts below Empty and goes a bit over Full. I have a Vacuum gauge on an instrument at work that reads over a range that is impossible (from 0 to over 40 inches of Hg?)

  7. It sells vehicles plain and simple..................
