AGAINST: Media is certainly not an ineffective parent. If the principal role of a parent in his/her child's life is protection and a good upbringing, then media provides all these in ample measure. Media brings out the dangers in our society so that we can protect ourselves from the same. There are lots of dangers lurking around the corner. Media also makes us aware of different aspects of society. As a result we are better informed and enlightened, which leads to a positive approach to different issues. Thus media has an educative value as well.

FOR: Certain sections of the media are biased and present a one sided view of certain events which is not desirable. Some act on purely commercial considerations in projecting events, programmes and views that are unhealthy for society. These sections of media are indeed ineffective and poor parents of society.
