  1. Because, virtually NO ONE, in the media, or the public saw this comming.

Ms. Palin may be well known in Alaska, but hardly anyone else, outside party insiders, have ever even heard of her.  Questions are bound to come up in the next few weeks about what she's about, what she's done and, of course, what her presence will do to the Republican Party ticket.

At least, with a more well known candidate, many of these questions would have already been discussed and answered.

  2. It's a surprise because most people may have thought that McCain would pick a male VP running mate but he picked a female instead, and one from a far away state Alaska. Governor Sarah Palin is from what I've read so far is definitely no Hillary Clinton type in any way, shape or form, thank God for that. She is a Conservative, she is a former mayor, she has an outstanding record and she is a wife and mother to several children. Obama would not pick a female running mate, especially Clinton, he was too afraid to do that but John McCain is not afraid at all.

  3. Did you ever hear of her before, say, two weeks ago?

Did you ever hear of Mitt Romney, or Tom Ridge, or even Joe Lieberman, two weeks ago?

    Any questions?

  4. It attracts people's attention. I believe that is the #1 reason. It also is at least somewhat true because she was not in the media's top speculation choices. I believe Romney was the #1 choice they thought McCain would pick.
