Question:

Why might I have a Cavity?

I brush my teeth really well at least two and sometimes three times a day. I even use a waterpik at least twice a day because of my braces. However, I noticed a very small black indented spot on top of one of my molars. I stuck a pin in it and nothing happened. Could this be from brushing too much? Is this even a cavity? Why did this happen because I am such a good brusher? I am going to the dentist tomorrow for a regular cleaning. Should I mention this to them? I;m so scared!

  1. mention it if you like but if it is a problem then they will notice. dont worry. some people just have weak enamel and there is nothing you can do about it.

  2. You should watch the high acidy foods you eat, like oranges,

A lot of orange Juices are high acidy therefore rot your teeth..

Keep away from  Coke as well :)

  3. Yes, mention it, but he'll probably see it anyway.

Proper brushing is not enough to safeguard your teeth.  Consider if you put sweet things into your mouth.  (Especially drinks - including orange juice - loaded with sugars)

  4. it could just be a strangely placed birthmark you should definitely tell the dentist

  5. Sometimes cavities just happen. It might be a stain too. I would suggest that maybe it's not good to stick pins in your teeth. Thank goodness nothing happened. That could have been painful!

The person who cleans your teeth will see it if it's a cavity. Make sure you mention it, just in case. A little black spot like that should take just a few minutes to fix up, good as new. Congratulations on taking such good care of your teeth. I try very hard, but I keep having trouble. Don't forget to floss too. That's very important. Don't be scared. Please just tell your dentist. If it has to be filled you will hardly feel it, if at all!  Be brave!  :-)
